YMCA Youth Soccer League Intern Location: Visser Family YMCA & SpartanNash YMCA Position Type: Unpaid Internship | YMCA Membership included (10+ hrs/month) Season Duration: April – June POSITION SUMMARY The YMCA Youth Soccer League Interns will support the planning, preparation, and delivery of a successful recreational soccer league serving children in grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Interns will work closely with the Sports Director and YMCA staff to provide a positive, fun, and safe experience for all players and families at both the Visser Family YMCA and SpartanNash YMCA locations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Organizing, inventorying, and distributing soccer equipment (balls, cones, goals, jerseys, etc.) Helping with team formation and coach/player assignment based on registration Assisting with setup and breakdown at practice and game sites Supervising field locations and supporting coaches during weekday practices and Saturday games Communicating effectively with coaches, families, and players Assisting with behavior management and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment on the field Coaching or stepping in for absent coaches as needed Helping with the distribution of end-of-season medals and other league materials Supporting the Sports Director with administrative or program-related duties as assigned AVAILABILITY Interns are needed April through June to support the full soccer season, including setup and wrap-up. Weekday evenings (between 4:30–7:30 PM) for practices/classes Saturdays (8:30 AM – 1:00 PM) for league games Occasional flexible hours for preseason prep in late March CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT) Bloodborne Pathogen Training CPR Certification (within 60 days) First Aid Certification (within 60 days) COMPENSATION This is currently an unpaid position. Interns who contribute 10+ hours/month are eligible for a free YMCA membership for the duration of the internship.
Local schools and churches (for field use and outreach support)
Provide accessible, fun, and skill-building soccer experiences for youth in the Greater Grand Rapids area Foster positive mentorship, sportsmanship, and leadership among youth participants Create hands-on learning opportunities for interns interested in youth programming and recreation

All interns will receive safety and emergency response training upon onboarding. Emergency protocols will be posted at all field locations. Proper supervision, hydration, and first aid supplies will be prioritized during programming.
In the event of severe weather or field closures, cancellations will be communicated via email or text at least 1 hour before class/game start time. Make-up sessions may be offered depending on field availability and intern/staff schedules.
